As soon as i came across this idiom " Knock on wood " , i remembered a similar one that is widely used in the Middle East with a slight difference in meanings
While Arabians use it as a laughable way to prevent the " extraordinary " effects of envy , English
:people use it to hope that something stays the way it is . Like , for instance , you can say
" Thank God he made it after having such a horrible accident . Knock on wood "
Actually , i can hardly find any difference between the way we use this idiom and the way English people do

When you say to someone " If you think so - and - so , you've got another think coming " you mean " You have to rethink your position

More than once , i heard English speaking people say " Scout's honor " while holding three fingers up . I could easily figure out what they mean by it from the context . So when you say " I'll bring that thing to you . Scout's honor " , you are using this idiom as an honorable promise

: Example
He told her that he loved her . But he was just taking her for a ride

: Example
